Our Office: Your New Favorite Third Place
“Let me ask, do you think this coffee’s good? I think it’s really good. Or is it just that someone else is making it for me?”
“You know, it’s like how a meal is always better when you’re sharing it with people… but this coffee is really good.”
—Overheard at Along the Way’s Office
Do you ever find yourself in need of a good reason to leave the house? Or a relaxing spot to sip coffee and break up a busy day? After the isolating years of COVID, these feelings are more common than ever. That’s why we’re inviting you to discover a third place.
What’s a third place? It’s your go-to spot when you want to get out of the house (place #1) or escape the daily grind of work (place #2). It’s where relationships thrive, ideas flow, and laughter fills the air. It’s safe, welcoming, and designed to help you reconnect with others—or just take a moment for yourself.
At Along the Way, we’ve transformed our new office into the kind of third place you’ve seen on your favorite TV shows—think Central Perk in Friends or the study room in Community. A cozy space where good coffee meets good company. But unlike TV, this is real, and it’s right here in your neighborhood.
What Makes Our Space Special?
Located in the lower level of Emmanuel Lutheran Church on Broad Street in Souderton, our space is built with community and connection in mind. Whether you’re here for one of our events or just to stop by, we’ve designed our third place to make you feel at home.
What you’ll find here:
• Sensory corner magic: Imagine the jungle from Avatar and the forests of Narnia combined into a grounding, nature-inspired escape for all ages. Learn more about the science behind a sensory corner unlike you’ve even seen when you attend one of our community events! And a huge thank you to Univest Financial for sponsoring this amazing space. We will be officially launching the Sensory Corner by hosting a free Community Holiday Party on Friday, Dec 20, 2024 where children can have their picture taken with Santa in this world of magic.
• Cozy and adaptable spaces: Couches, tables, and chairs that can be rearranged to meet your needs—study sessions, meetups, networking breakfasts, co-working or meaningful conversations.
• Shared experiences: Family game nights, brain science workshops, art projects, and holiday parties—all centered on fun, healing, and connection.
In 2025, we invite parenting and fellowship groups to host their regular meetups or events in our space. The space is equally suited for friend groups who want to chat while their children play; this past year, parents have found their kids building a LEGO tower taller than themselves while they savored a cup of coffee and connected with other adults. And trust us, the coffee is really good.
Why Third Places Matter
In today’s world, third places are more than just a luxury—they’re essential. Sociologist Ray Oldenburg introduced the concept in the 1990s, describing them as “a place on the corner” where community comes alive. Thirty years later, and especially post-pandemic, the need for shared spaces is greater than ever.
Third places bring us together. They spark conversations, help us meet new people, and provide a refuge from the demands of everyday life. At Along the Way, we’ve taken that idea to heart, creating a space where everyone is welcome.
Our space isn’t just about gathering; it’s about growing. We offer workshops and events that empower single parents, promote healing, and build hope. Our co-founder, trauma-educator April Matt, ensures every program is designed with care and a focus on what our community needs most.
Make It Yours
This space was created for you. It’s been a library, a playroom, a snack bar, a theater, and a meeting room—all in one day. It’s a place where you can be yourself, discover something new, and make lasting connections.
So come as you are. Bring your family, your friends, or just yourself. Let’s make this third place a part of your life.
