Along The Way

Along The Way is revolutionizing care, including the way that communities support working parents and families. We utilize the Protective Factors Framework, which is recognized nationally and by the PA Department of Education. By choosing us to walk Along The Way of life with your family, you receive the highest quality of child care service and you are doing a community good; as a non-profit child care provider that goes right into your home, our profit is diverted to provide child care sponsorships as a pathway to financial stability for single mother families—our sisters, daughters, and friends. Learn about receiving child care here.

These child care sponsorships enable single mothers to re-enter the workforce and/or further their education. Learn more about how our organization has impacted women and their families here; to discover more about our research driven and evidence-based approach, read about our core values below.

AUTHENTIC RELATIONSHIP

Post-traumatic growth

happens in the context of healthy relationships. Research has shown that poverty is related to increased experiences of trauma, and poor maternal and child outcomes. Our organization’s name is derived from our commitment to building authentic relationships with the parents & children we serve and to walk along the way with them during life’s journey.

LONG-TERM SUPPORT

Stability & self-sufficiency

takes time to attain. There are many short and medium-term services to stabilize crises; however, many of these services are time-limited. Research has shown us that it is long-term investments in individuals and families that make the greatest impact on those individuals, communities, and society. That’s why we provide service to families for as long as they qualify to receive it.

HOLISTIC

Holistic support and access to resources

are needed for people to make sustained improvements to their lives. For many, this type of support comes from family and natural relationships; however, when individuals do not have a reliable network of people in their lives or strong relationships with people who live geographically close to them, change can seem insurmountable.

Attaining financial stability is difficult & multi-layered, and deficits in a natural support system can be made even more challenging for women working nontraditional schedules who may have limited access to existing social supports; in addition to our main child care support, we offer other support services to increase access to services that may otherwise be difficult to obtain for the population we serve. We are committed to provided holistic support that is effective in helping women achieve their goals and break the cycle of poverty.

STRENGTHS-BASED

Unique strengths & potential

are part of each human person. We recognize the dignity of each individual, find value in differences, and seek to support each stakeholder in leveraging their strengths and reaching their full potential! This applies to all members of our Along The Way community — clients, employees, interns, volunteers, financial partners and all people who interact with our organization in any capacity.

We exercise commitment to this approach by inviting dialogue between stakeholders & striving to match individual skills, interests, and resources with the needs of the organization.

CLIENT-CENTERED

Self-determination

From the very beginning, Along The Way has recognized the importance of hearing from the community and clients about what they need; this motivated the founders’ to survey the larger community back in 2013 to identify the service gap that Along The Way has been working to close ever since — access to safe & reliable child care during nontraditional times.

We continue to be an organization that recognizes our clients as the experts of their own lives. This means that we routinely seek feedback about our programs/services, and before we roll out new initiatives, we dialogue with clients first to ensure it is something they would find helpful for life’s journey.

Relationships matter: the currency for systemic change was trust, and trust comes through forming healthy working relationships. People, not programs, change people.
