Hi, we’re Along The Way! It’s been a little while since we’ve added to our blog last, but we’re resurrecting this part of our website since we’re growing and want to share more content!
Our mission is to provide community, acceptance, and hope to women; we do this by providing concrete support to low-income single mothers to invest in themselves, their children, and their larger communities. We are a nonprofit that provides single mothers with high-quality, in-home child care when many single mothers work -- nights & weekends; in our service areas, child care is a huge cost burden that prevents single mother families from getting ahead, and there are no other entities providing this child care support during nontraditional work hours. For parents who work 2nd or 3rd shifts or on weekends, their child care options are: 1. Care from family or friends or 2. Hire a babysitter. The first is often not reliable or even possible when family doesn’t live close by, and the second option comes with a high price tag -- costing an average of $16.84 for 2 kids which is roughly $5 more per hour than the hourly wage of the clients we serve!
We hope this paints the picture a little bit better about why we do what we do.
As a startup, we’re very proud of what we’ve accomplished thus far. We’ve provided over 8000 hours of child care hours, and are growing in hours served every week! 50% of the single mothers we’ve served have gained employment through our referrals. We’ve provided child care to 13 single mother families, and while this is wonderful, we still want to help so many more mothers, and create an even bigger impact in our community. We can’t do it alone though!
